A "Free Trade" Conundrum

The chart above was made from results in a new YouGov Poll -- done between March 10th and 13th of a random national sample of 1,000 adults, with a margin of error of 4.6 points.

The results are a conundrum. It shows that more Democrats (49%) think free trade has been a good thing than Republicans (38%). Meanwhile, more Republicans (48%) think it has been a bad thing than Democrats (29%).

This is just the opposite of what their party leaders think. Most, if not all, Republican leaders are huge supporters of free trade. Many Democratic leaders (including both presidential candidates) seem to be opposed to free trade.

Make of it what you will. I just thought it was strange.
