Support For Same-Sex Marriage Continues To Grow

Right-wing christian bigots were convinced that our country would be ruined by granting the same right to the LGBT community that all other Americans have -- the right to marry the person they love. Obviously, that didn't happen, and a growing portion of Americans now realize that granting those rights hurt no one.

Currently 61% of Americans (the biggest majority ever) believe same-sex couples should have the right to marry -- and that includes 79% of Democrats, 65% of Independents, 83% of those between 18 and 29, 60% of those between 30 and 49, and 53% of those 50 or older.

Only one group has less than a majority supporting same-sex marriage rights -- Republicans (and 40% of them support those rights).

America is starting to grow up in terms of equal rights. Now we need to extend those rights to cover housing and the workplace.

The charts above are from a new Gallup Poll -- done between May 4th and 8th of a random national sample of 1,025 adults, with a 4 point margin of error.

  1. I remember Loving v. Virginia (1967). Discrimination is dying a slow, agonizing death in the US. It has taken almost 50 years for us to get to this point. Now if we can work on the "war against women"...
