There Are A Lot Of Stupid Texans (Especially Republicans)

For the last couple of years, there's been a lot of talk about Texas seceding from the United States. It's not possible (the Civil War proved that) and a majority of Texans would never approve it, but the idiotic idea just won't seem to die. Currently, a quarter of the Texas population (26%) says it would support secession, and an even larger percentage of Republicans (37%) think secession is a good idea (nearly 4 out of 10 Republicans).

Evidently these people think they can run away from the things they perceive to be a problem -- like the election of a politician they don't like. Note the bottom chart, where it shows that a significant majority of Texas Republicans (57%) say they would support secession if Hillary Clinton is elected president.

The crazy thing is that seceding would not solve any political problems these Republicans see. Texas is going to turn blue wishing the next 20-30 years, and secession would not stop that. Hispanics, who tend to vote more liberally (i.e., Democrats) are the fastest growing segment of the Texas population -- and in fact, whites are already a minority in the states K-12 schools. This can't be stopped by building a wall or closing borders -- because most of the growing Hispanic population in Texas are born to people already living in the state.

Frankly, all these charts tell me is that there are a lot of stupid people in Texas, and the majority of them are Republicans.

These charts were made from a newly released Public Policy Polling survey -- done between August 12th to 14th of a random sample of 944 likely Texas voters, with a margin of error of 3.2 points.
