Most Think Trump Administration Will Be Scandal-Ridden

The last eight years have been a breath of fresh air. The administration of Barack Obama has been scandal-free -- with no criminal indictments and no serious ethics violations.

But the American people don't think that will be true for the administration of Donald Trump. An overwhelming percentage (63%) say there will be one or more major scandals -- with 24% saying there will be one or two major scandals, and a plurality of 39% saying there will be many major scandals.

And it may not take much time for that to come true. Not only is Trump himself likely already in violation of the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution, but it looks like his choice to head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Tom Price, is guilty of insider trading (a serious crime). I think these are just the firsts of many scandals to come.

The charts above reflect information in a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between January 14th and 17th of a random national sample of 1,447 adults, with a margin of error of 3 points.
