These charts are from a new CBS News Poll -- done between April 11th and 15th of a random national sample of 1,011 adults, with a 4 point margin of error. It shows that the support for legalizing marijuana continues to grow -- from only 27% in 1979 to a current level of 61%.
1979..........27%
2011..........40%
2013..........45%
2014..........51%
2015..........53%
2016..........56%
2017..........61%
More and more Americans are starting to realize that marijuana is NOT a dangerous drug, and keeping it illegal hurts our society far more than it helps. They also realize that taxing legal marijuana would be a very good source of revenue for the government at all levels, and would create many new jobs.
The poll had a couple of other interesting results. First, only one age group has less than 60% supporting legalization -- those over age 65 (where only 37% support legalization). Second, half of the U.S. population now says they have tried marijuana.
