GOP Votes For Massive Redistribution Of Income To Rich
The Republican Congress made it clear that they don't care about the wishes of the American public yesterday. They rammed a massive tax cut for the rich and corporations through Congress in spite of public opposition to it. The public knows that Republicans are lying when they call it a "middle class" tax cut. They know it is in reality a huge redistribution of income and wealth from the working and middle classes to the richest people in the country.
The House passed the bill on a 227 to 203 vote (with only 12 Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the odious bill).
The Senate passed the bill on a 51 to 48 vote. All Republicans but McCain (who is recovering in Arizona) voted for it, and the two Independents joined all Democrats in voting against it.
The polls in the charts above are:
The NBC News / Wall Street Journal Poll -- done between December 13th and 15th of a random national sample of 900 adults, with a 3.27 point margin of error.
The CNN / SSRS Poll -- done between December 14th and 17th of a random national sample of 1,001 adults, with a 3.6 point margin of error.
NOTE -- It turns out the bill agreed upon by House and Senate Republicans violated Senate rules allowing them to pass it with only a majority. They had to make changes. That means the House will have to vote again today. There is little doubt the Republicans will again pass it in the House though. The GOP is determined to give the rich and corporations massive tax cuts (and then attack Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs to pay for the giveaway to the rich).
