Public Is Unhappy With Wealth/Income Distribution In U.S.

The chart above is from the Gallup Poll. The latest info comes from a survey they did between January 2nd and 7th of a random national sample of 1,024, with a margin of error of 6 points for the political divisions.

The chart shows the percentage that are satisfied with the distribution of wealth and income in the United States. Slightly more than half of Republicans (56%) say they are satisfied -- a percentage that climbed above 50% only after Trump took office. Since the distribution is wider than before, I have to assume they now approve only because they see approval as a defense of their president.

It is far different for Independents (32%) and Democrats (17%). They know that the current distribution of wealth and income in the country is both unfair and dangerous. The gap between the rich and the rest of America is wider now than at any time since the 1920's (just before the Great Depression).

That gap continues to grow wider with each passing year, as the rich gobble up most of the income and wealth created. And the new tax law passed by the Republicans will only make this widening gap grow even faster (since most of the tax cuts in that law go to the rich and the corporations).

The economic policy being pursued by our current Republican government is vastly unfair. It tilts the economic playing field to the advantage of the rich, and to the disadvantage of other Americans. It is turning this country into a nation of "haves" and "have-nots" -- a nation with more inequality than many third world nations. And that inequality is beginning to affect our democracy (by giving more power to the rich and less to everyone else).

This must change -- and the only way to make that policy change is to vote the Republicans out of power in November.
