Presidential Approval After 594 Days In Office

The chart above (from fivethirtyeight.com) shows the public approval of each president (since WWII) after serving 594 days in office. Note that only one president had a lower public approval than Donald Trump -- Harry Truman.

Truman was able to rehabilitate his public opinion enough to win the 1948 election. Can Trump repeat that political feat in 2020? I doubt it. While the public disagreed with some of Truman's actions, they did not doubt his honesty. It is far different for Trump.

As the chart below shows, a significant majority of the public does not think Trump is honest and trustworthy. And that belief has been steady since he was elected. In my opinion, that is why he has been unable to improve his approval numbers.

The chart below shows the results from a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between September 2nd and 4th of a national sample of 1,500 adults, with a 3 point margin of error.
