A Majority Of Americans Don't Want Trump To Run In 2020
The American voters gave Trump a spanking in the last election -- flipping 40 seats in the House of Representatives and giving Democrats solid control of the House. And in just the last week, the stock market has dropped precipitously, the government has been shut down, and a well-respected Secretary of Defense has resigned because of Trump's foreign policy.
It shouldn't surprise anyone then that a majority of Americans don't want Trump to run for re-election in 2020. They have had enough of his failed presidency. As the chart above shows, Americans don't want him to run again by an 18 point margin (52% to 34%). The margin among registered voters is 15 points (53% to 38%).
If Trump expects to be re-elected, he has to repair his his reputation with the public. He doesn't seem to want to do that though. Every action he takes is to please his base -- only a tiny percentage of the public.
The chart reflects the results of the newest Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between December 16th and 18th of a national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,316 registered voters). The margin of error for adults is 3.2 points, and for registered voters is 2.9 points.
