Public Is Not Happy With A Tax System Favoring The Rich

As Americans are starting to pay their taxes for 2018, they are now starting to realize the Republicans lied to them about the tax cuts -- which the Republicans labeled at "middle class tax cuts". While the rich and the corporations did get massive tax cuts under the Republican law, most Americans did not.

Many people are seeing smaller tax returns this year and others are seeing no difference at all -- and some are now paying a higher tax. And they are not happy about it. The tax plan passed by Republicans did not help them in the 2018 elections, and may be even more damaging for their prospects in the 2020 election.

By overwhelming margins, the public thinks low income workers, middle income workers, and small businesses pay too much in taxes -- and that the rich and corporations pay too little. And they believe the rich (76%) and the corporations (75%) should pay more in taxes.

That was the verdict rendered in a new Politico / Morning Consult Poll -- done on February 1st and 2nd of a national sample of 1,993 registered voters, with a 2 point margin of error.
