House Votes 420 To 0 To Release Mueller Report To Public

It has been a serious question as to whether the general public will ever get to see the Mueller Report when it is submitted. The bill creating the Mueller investigation only said the report would be submitted to the Attorney General -- and Attorney General Barr has refused to commit to making the report public. Instead, he has said he would give Congress a summary of Mueller's findings. That could be anything from a full accounting to a whitewash that hides the important findings.

That's not good enough for the public. A recent Politico / Morning Consult Poll showed that 68% of registered voters want the report made public (including 59% of Republicans). And that poll is not an outlier. Other polls have shown the same thing.

It looks like the House of Representatives agrees with the voters. On Thursday, they voted 420 to 0 to ask the Attorney General to release the Mueller Report to the public -- with 190 Republicans joining 230 Democrats voting to release the report. Four Republicans voted present. Five Democrats and three Republicans did not vote.

I admit that I was surprised that no Republican voted to keep the report secret. Did the polls scare them, or do they think the report will clear Trump of wrongdoing? I don't know, but this vote (while not binding) will put more pressure on Attorney General Barr to release the full report.
