Just What Democrats Did Not Need - Another Candidate

There were already 24 candidates running for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination. Any reasonable person would think that enough. Personally, I think it's more than enough, and I long for the day the field is cut by 10 or 15 candidates.

But last Saturday, the Democrats got the one thing they didn't need -- another candidate. Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak has tossed his hat in the ring. In declaring his candidacy, the former Navy admiral said:

“Our country desperately needs a president with a depth of global experience and an understanding of all the elements of our nation’s power, from our economy and our diplomacy to the power of our ideals and our military, including its limitations.”
“The president is not the problem. He is the symptom of the problem people see in a system that is not fair and accountable to the people.”

Sestak's entry into the race brings the total number of candidates to 25. They are:

Elizabeth Warren

Joe Biden

Kamala Harris

Beto O'Rourke

Pete Buttigieg

Cory Booker

Julian Castro

Amy Klobuchar

Jay Inslee

John Hickenlooper

Andrew Yang

Michael Bennet

John Delaney

Tim Ryan

Wayne Messam

Seth Moulton

Eric Swalwell

Marianne Williamson

Kirsten Gillibrand

Steve Bullock

Tulsi Gabbard

Bill de Blasio

Joe Sestak

Bernie Sanders

Mike Gravel
