MAGA Wants To Go Back To The 1950's - Trump Would Go Further Back

The election is over. Trump won. It was not a landslide (as some are claiming), but it was a solid victory that gives Trump and MAGA Republicans control of our government. For at least the next two years, they will have the White House, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court.

What will they do? They will take this nation backwards. MAGA would love to see a replay of the 1950's - a time when nonwhites had few rights (and no rights in the South), when women had no control over their own bodies (or their finances), when the LGBTQ community was in the closet (for their safety), evangelicals were able to force their religion on the country, and a white male patriarchy made all the rules and had all the power.

It was a time of a booming economy. But not for the reasons MAGA thinks - not because of the rampant racism, misogyny, and homophobia. It was because the nation was coming out of a war and beginning to buy things they couldn't get in a way economy. It was because the government was spending on a national transportation system that created jobs. It was because the government was spending to educate millions of veterans. And it was because unions were strong and creating a prosperous middle class. And it was all financed by a 91% top tax rate.

Trump knows this. It's why he would not be happy with just going back to the 1950's. He would like to take the nation all the way back to the 1920's - a time with all the social inequities AND a top tax rate of only 25%. That's his dream - racism, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia and an incredibly low tax rate for his billionaire friends (and himself).

Brace yourselves for a journey back in time - as far as Trump and the Republicans can go in the next two to four years.
