Only About Half Say U.S. Has Responsibility To Provide Humanitarian Aid

The chart above reflects the results of the Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between August 1st and 4th of a nationwide sample of 1,702 adults (including 1,528 registered voters). The margin of error is 3.3 points for adults and 3.0 points for registered voters.

I was disappointed in the results of this poll. Only about half of Americans believe this country has a responsibility to provide humanitarian aid to the many disadvantaged people in the world - those needlessly suffering from poverty, starvation and disease.

In this new "Gilded Age", are Americans losing their humanity? Are we really OK with a few people having millions or billions of dollars while millions suffer?

I had thought we were better than this. Maybe I was wrong.
