Dallas Cowboy Safety Is Shot !

At about 5:00am this morning, Dallas Cowboy starting safety, Keith Davis was shot three times as he was driving home on I-635. Davis' passenger had to take control of the car, and then drive Davis to RHD Memorial Medical Center in Carrollton. He was later transferred to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

A source told the newspaper that Davis had been hit in the head, thigh, and leg, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. At this time it is not known how serious the injuries are, or who did the shooting.

This is the second time that Davis has been shot. In 2003, he was shot three times outside a Dallas topless club. Since that time, Davis had been cut, re-acquired, and earned the job of starting safety.

This is terrible timing for the Cowboys. Training camp opens in about two weeks. Now they will have to scramble to fill a position they thought they had finally locked down. It is not yet known when [or even if] Davis might be able to return.

Update - The Dallas Morning News is now reporting that Keith Davis is in stable condition. They report he was only shot twice - his right thigh and the back of his head. Suspects and a motive are still unknown.

2nd Update - Channel 4 news in Dallas is quoting Morning News columnist, Jacques Taylor, as saying the head wound was just a graze, or flesh wound. The thigh injury is more serious. This is great news. When you hear the phrase "shot in the head", it's easy to start thinking horrible thoughts. With a little bit of luck, maybe Davis will be back before training camp is over.
