Next Tuesday, July 18th, all public transportation [trollys, buses, trains] in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties will be free. You can ride anywhere in the Metroplex all day long for free. If you've been thinking about using public transportation, here is your chance to try it out - for free.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit [DART], Fort Worth Transportation Authority [the T], and Denton County Transportation Authority, have all banded together to showcase area mass transit. It is their hope that this will help to increase ridership. Transportation officials say a commuter can save $3000 a year by using area mass transit.
I applaud these efforts. It can only help to get more cars off the road and more people in mass transit.
Instead of inventing boondoggle schemes like the Trans-Texas Corridor, our state government should be helping Texas cities to improve and expand their mass transit systems. A super tollway won't help most Texans. Widening I-35 and putting more money into mass transportation certainly would. Our current governor is more interested in protecting the TTC corporate boondoggle, than he is in doing what's best for Texans. Don't vote for Perry if you don't support the TTC.
