Cowboys Monday Morning Quarterbacking

Football season is almost upon us again! My favorite time of the year. Of course, that means my beloved Dallas Cowboys are preparing to make a run for the playoffs [I hope]. The Cowboys opened their training camp a couple of weeks ago, and played their first pre-season game last saturday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Pre-season doesn't mean much, unless you are like me, and love to see how the new guys are doing.

The Cowboys did very well in their first pre-season game. Coach Parcells started backup quarterback, Tony Romo. This is the final year of his contract, and they want to see if he's ready to be an NFL quarterback, or if they need to look elsewhere next year. Romo did very well. He won the game, and had no interceptions or sacks. Finished with a very decent quarterback rating of around 117. Some people are now starting to talk about a quarterback controversy, but I believe Bledsoe is the starter for this year. Look for Romo to get more playing time this year, and make a bid to start for the Cowboys next year.

The offensive line is the most worrisome part of the team. After some injuries, they really fell apart last year. The starting line is not yet set, but those playing saturday night did pretty well. Romo was not sacked, and most of the time, had enough protection to get the job done. It will probably be a couple of weeks before the starters are set, but the line got off to a pretty good start Saturday night.

Greg Ellis seems to be getting used to his new position. He was switched from a defensive end to an outside linebacker this year. Saturday night, Ellis did very well. With not much playing time, he got a sack, and tackled a receiver in the open field. I think by the end of the year, we'll be talking about what a brilliant move this was.

Many of the other young players also looked good. This is just pre-season, but I've got a good feeling about this team. If the offensive line comes together, and the team stays healthy, this could be a very good year for the Dallas Cowboys. I can hardly wait for the season to start.
