There was a bit of good news for the residents of Tarrant County last night. The voters in Grapevine overwhelmingly passed a proposition that would allow a 1/2 cent sales tax increase to help pay for a commuter rail line.
The rail line would run from downtown Fort Worth to the north end of DFW Airport. It would have been very difficult to construct the rail line if Grapevine had not jumped aboard last night. Now that obstacle has been removed, and the line could be in operation by 2011. Thank goodness! More and better mass transportation is badly needed in Tarrant County.
Of the 1/2 cent tax approved, 3/8 of a cent will go toward construction and operation of the commuter rail line. The other 1/8 of a cent will be used to build and maintain a rail station in Grapevine.
A total of 10,956 votes were cast on the proposition, and the outcome was not even close. Of that total, 8,058 [73.5%] voters said yes and 2,898 [26.5%] said no.
I thank the voters in Grapevine who voted to provide a brighter future for Tarrant County.
