Our friend over at PSoTD blog threw out an interesting question yesterday and asked those on his blogroll to comment on it. Since he has been good enough to include jobsanger on his blogroll, I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth.
His question was "Will Lieberman support a Republican for president in the 2008 election?". PSoTD goes on to say that if we believe he will, then we should go ahead and discuss it now so the MSM doesn't make a big deal out of it during the campaign -- sort of take the sting out of his defection now so it doesn't hurt later.
I have to agree. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of Lieberman supporting the Democratic candidate. As supporters of the idea that America needs one of the Democratic candidates, we need to discuss Lieberman's turncoat tendencies now. When he does once again turn his back on Democrats, we don't need the media claiming that Democrats are deserting their own party.
Lieberman has never been a Democrat. He only runs as a Democrat because he lives in a Democratic state. If he were from the Midwest or the South, he would be happily running as a Republican.
True Democrats should be supporting worker's rights and opposing the illegal war in Iraq. Lieberman was long ago bought and paid for by corporate interests. He has also supported the war since the beginning, and still supports it. His beliefs are the total opposite of any of the eight Democratic candidates. His beliefs are much more in synch with any of the top Republican candidates.
Another thing to consider is that if a Democratic sweep occurs, Lieberman would be marginalized. However, if a Republican is elected president, then he retains some power as a bridge between the White House and the Senate.
Lieberman will support the Republican nominee in 2008. He's used to doing it and does it well.
