A Really Dumb Criminal

Last December 8th in Chula Vista (California), the K-Mart was robbed. The robber took a TV, a DVD player and a telephone. The police were able to figure out who did it, but they had no idea where he was. Another thing they didn't know was just how dumb the criminal was.

As most police departments do, Chula Vista recruited for new police officers in other cities. They received one application to take the police exam from Las Vegas from a man named Romeo Montillano. After examining the application, police figured out this was the man they were looking for in the K-Mart robbery.

Naturally, police wrote him back and told him to come on down for the test. If they could get him to come to them, it would be a whole lot easier than effecting an out-of-state arrest and going through the court proceedings that could accompany that.

They thought they had missed their opportunity when they got a call from him saying he was having car problems. But he showed up on time after hopping on a bus. Of course, he was arrested and hauled off to the county jail, where he sits in lieu of $110,000 bail.

But this man wasn't through being stupid. As he was being arrested, he asked if he could still take the exam. When police told him no, he asked if he could re-apply and take it later.

Obviously, this guy was not a very good criminal and needed to find a new line of work. But I can't help feeling his choice of a second career was as bad as his choosing to be a criminal. No one needs this guy on the streets wearing a badge.
