Kinky Withdrawing ? RIDICULOUS !

There has been a nasty rumor going around in some political circles that Democratic candidate for governor Kinky Friedman is going to withdraw from the primary race. The rumor says he will throw his support to hair-care magnate Farouk Shami, who has just announced his candidacy.

It is true that Shami and Friedman are friends, and Shami supported Kinky during his independent run for governor in 2006. But that doesn't mean Kinky has any intention of withdrawing. Kinky says the rumors of his withdrawal "couldn't be more wrong." Shami is simply one more candidate to beat in the primary -- just like Tom Schieffer or Hank Gilbert.

Kinky thinks the rumor might have stemmed from "confusion" over his pledge to support the winner of the Democratic primary (if he loses the primary). He went on to say, "Right now, I think all of them look better than Prince Humperdink (Perry)."

I disagree. I think the rumor was started by supporters of some of the other candidates in an effort to try and convince people that Kinky is not a serious candidate. But wherever the rumor came from, it's silly and makes no sense at all.

According to the only poll released so far, Kinky is the FRONTRUNNER in the race by a large margin. When do you remember a frontrunner ever dropping out of a race because someone else (with no name recognition) entered the race? Things may change before primary day (since the campaigns are just getting started), but right now Kinky is the leading contender.

There's still a long way to go in this campaign, and I doubt that any of the serious contenders will be dropping out, regardless of whatever rumors may be going around.
