It's amazing the lengths to which some people will go to justify their own prejudices.
I had a professor in college who once had a student from Africa stay in his home. The student supposedly told the professor that the Africans who were caught by the slave traders were too lazy and stupid to avoid capture, unlike the student's ancestors.
The professor used this bit of revisionist history to feel better about his own bigotry. He wasn't really a racist (so he reasoned) because not all Blacks are lazy and stupid - just the ones who were brought to the New World as slaves, and by analogy, their descendants.
ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED. And neither will racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments. I do not mind if you disagree, but make your case in a decent manner.
