New Gallup Numbers For GOP Candidates

Like the other polls, the Gallup organization does some polling which gives the tentative support of the various candidates for the Republican presidential nomination. These are interesting, but probably not very accurate this far out from the first primary or caucus. But they do a different kind of polling regarding the candidates that I find even more interesting.

They do what they call a Positive Intensity Score (PIS), which is supposed to determine the depth of a candidate's support when taken in conjunction with the candidate's name recognition percentage (NRP). They arrive at this PIS by subtracting the percentage of people who disapprove of a candidate from the percentage who approve of that candidate. Only those who are familiar with the candidate are queried about their approval or disapproval (so the higher the NRP is the more accurate the PIS will be).

The latest PIS/NRP survey was done by Gallup between July 4th and July 17th of 1,500 Republicans nationwide (with a 3 point sampling error). Here are their numbers:
