Will The Performance Of The Political Parties In Congress Help or Hurt Their Party's Presidential Candidates ?

Considering the poor performance of Congress in the last few years, and the abysmal job approval rating of Congress, it is valid to ask if Congress will help or hurt the presidential candidates. No one is pleased with how Congress has performed.

It looks like the Republicans are less sure than Democrats that Congress will help their candidate. Only 17% of Republicans say congressional politicians will help Donald Trump, while 26% say they will hurt Trump's chances. That mirrors the poor opinion of Congress by Republicans -- even though their party currently controls both the House and Senate.

Democrats are more sure about congressional Democrats helping Hillary Clinton. About 48% believe that, while only 10% say they will hurt her candidacy. Democrats believe their congressional representatives have done a pretty good job in blocking the worst efforts of the Republicans.

The charts above were made from a recent Rasmussen Poll -- done on July 6th and 7th of a random national sample of 1,000 likely voter, with a 3 point margin of error.
