Majority Says Abortion Should Be Legal In All/Most Cases

The chart above reflects the results of a recent NBC News Survey -- done between August 14th and 17th of a national sample of 1,000 adults, with a 3.1 point margin of error.

A new Texas law goes into effect today in Texas that would virtually outlaw abortions in the state. It would ban abortions after 6 weeks (before many women could even know they were pregnant). It would also let anyone in the public sue a doctor, or anyone else who helped or aided in a woman getting an abortion. In effect, this would create abortion "bounty hunters".

It's an odious law, and it's not what most Americans want. As the chart shows, about 54% of the population thinks abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Only 42% disagree with that.
