University Of North Texas Picks Female President

In its 116 year history, the University of North Texas has never had a woman as its president. That is fixing to change. On monday, the Board of Regents voted unamiously to confirm Gretchen Bataille as UNT's 14th president. Ms. Bataille will replace Dr. Norval Pohl, who will be leaving UNT on August 31st.

Ms. Bataille comes to UNT from North Carolina, where she was the chief academic officer for UNC's 16 campuses. She has also worked at Washington State University, University of California at Santa Barbara, and Arizona State University. She has a master's degree in English.

Ms. Bataille will be paid $305,000 a year to lead the 32,000 student university. She said, "I'm happy to be here whether I'm the 10th woman or the first."
