Kinky Favors Casino Gambling In Texas

Kinky Friedman, independent candidate for governor, likes to joke that he recently returned from a "fact-finding mission" to Las Vegas, and half the people he met there were from Texas. Freidman also says that Texas gamblers have turned Tunica, Mississippi from the "poorest little town in Mississippi to the richest little town in Mississippi".

Kinky says, "This is common sense. It's crazy to have Louisiana gamblers mad at Oklahoma for taking away their Texans. We would bring the money back home. Legalizing casino gambling is very popular in Texas, and I think most people want it."

It is believed that casino gambling would bring in revenues to Texas of $6-$8 billion each year. Kinky would like to use that money to improve public schools, and to reduce property taxes, which he says are "obscene and outrageous".

Kinky's opponents do not agree. Perry is opposed to casino gambling. Grandma wants to leave it up to the voters. Bell is not opposed to it, but doesn't believe it is a long-term solution to Texas' education problems.

  1. Kind of a shame that the Texas Legislature has considered and rejected this idea several times in the past. What is Kinky's back up plan when his proposal to legalize casino gambling can't get through the Texas Legislature?

  2. I think that they should have legalized gambling in all 50 states, so that anyone can gamble, anytime that they want to.
