Radnofsky Blasts Border Fence

Senator Hutchison can be counted on to vote with the right-wing no matter how stupid the issue. Recently, she joined the Republican effort to scare the public, and voted to approve 700 miles of new fences between the U.S. and Mexico. Anyone familiar with Texas should know this will only hurt Texans, especially businessmen, farmers and ranchers, while doing nothing to keep terrorists out of our country. Yesterday, Democratic senate candidate, Barbara Ann Radnofsky, issued a press release regarding immigration and the proposed border fence. Here is what she had to say:

"We should reform our trade agreements and immigration policies. I oppose the double wall fence that my opponent voted for. These policies target legal trade, not illegal immigration, costs billions of taxpayer dollars, harm American business and our ability to compete, and also hurts the Mexican farming industry, and pulls unemployed workers north for jobs.

We should recognize that our security in Texas deserves funding on a risk basis. Texas is losing millions of homeland security dollars to other states' sites with less need. We have chemical plants and ports deserving security. I've proposed we use the merchant marine academy cadets and graduates for port service. My opponent has voted against adequate funding for port protection.

We must fairly enforce employment laws. My opponent said that even nuclear power plant workplace law enforcement was a local matter. That's wrong.

I call on my opponent to renounce her votes requiring fencing on the Texas-Mexican border."
