Another White House Mistake

Which of the above flags is the official flag of the country of Vietnam today?

I think most people who know anything about history and politics probably know which one it is. For the rest of you, the flag on the left [red with yellow star] is the official flag.

The flag on the right [yellow with red stripes] is the flag of South Vietnam, a country which no longer exists. It has not flown in Vietnam since 1975.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I would have expected the White House to know this. But evidently they don't. On the official White House web site, they displayed the flags of the countries that Bush is currently visiting in Asia [Singapore, Indonesia, & Vietnam] as he attends the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. The only problem is that they displayed the wrong flag for Vietnam.

Yes, the White House once again displayed its total incompetence by displaying the old flag of South Vietnam, instead of the current flag of Vietnam. This is not the kind of mistake you want to make when you're trying to normalize relations with Vietnam.

Any school-child could tell you which flag is the correct one in just a couple of minutes, by popping open an encyclopedia or hitting the internet. How is it that the White House cannot do it?

Is there anything these guys haven't screwed up since taking office?
