Bush Touts New Immigrant Arrest Policy

The administration of our Incompetent-in-Chief, George Bush, made another assault on human rights and common decency yesterday [he obviously has no respect for either]. Georgie said the he has the right to arrest any immigrant for any reason and hold them for as long as he wants without any charges.

Georgie says the new law he signed last month gives him this right. The law was already being used to deny basic human rights to detainees in Guantanamo. Now Georgie is claiming the right to do the same to any immigrant, whether they are legal or not, that is already living in the United States.

He also claims that anyone arrested and labeled an "enemy combatant" does not have the right to ask a court to review their incarceration. Since these immigrants cannot go to a court, that means that Georgie can arrest and detain them without probable cause or evidence. All he needs is the desire to lock them up.

This is the way a police state operates -- to lock someone up indefinitely without just cause and deny them basic rights. What has happened to America -- the wonderful country that was built by immigrants? How can we allow such injustice to happen?

I have no sympathy for the real terrorists. If we have evidence that someone is participating in a terrorist plot, we should take them to court, prove their guilt, and lock them up forever.

But to lock someone up without evidence and deny them a lawyer or access to a court indefinitely -- that's just wrong, no matter who we're doing it to.
