It looks like many in the Republican party are upset with Bush over the timing of his firing Rumsfeld. They believe that if Bush had done it a week or two earlier, it could have blunted criticism of the war and given Republican candidates a boost right before the election.
Senator Arlen Specter [R-Pennsylvania] said Bush should have removed Rumsfeld "as soon as he had made up his mind. And that's a hard thing to calculate. But it's highly doubtful that he made up his mind between the time the election returns came in on Tuesday and Wednesday when Rumsfeld was out. And if Rumsfeld had been out, you bet it would have made a difference. I'd still be chairman of the Judiciary Committee."
Defeated Representative from Florida, Clay Shaw, agreed saying, "It could have made a difference in who is running Congress." Newt Gingrich even jumped into the fray, agreeing with Shaw and Specter.
Liberals and others have known for years of Bush's incompetence. I find it hard to believe that the Republicans are just now finding out. After the Iraq war and Hurricane Katrina, how could they believe Georgie was competent enough to make campaign decisions?
