Most Still Want Background Checks For All Gun Buyers

The Republican Congress still refuses to even consider closing the loopholes in the background check law -- even though 40% of all gun buyers in this country purchase their guns without any kind of background check each year. This means any criminal, terrorist, or dangerously mentally ill person can buy any kind of gun they want (including assault weapons) any time they want.

That is insane, and the American public wants it changed. A new poll shows that 83% of all Americans want every gun buyer to have to go through a background check before being able to buy a gun. And that cuts across all gender, political, racial, and age demographic lines -- including members of the Republican base (79%).

It shows that the GOP Congress is ignoring reality in favor of kowtowing to the National Rifle Association (NRA). They know that over 30,000 are killed by guns in this country every year, and the country averages more than one mass shooting every single day (an incident in which four or more people are shot). They claim they would not be re-elected if they voted to close those background check loopholes, but that is just political greed. The poll shows that the people would support such a law. The politicians just don't want to give up the NRA money (in other words, they have been paid off by the NRA).

This is just one reason among many why the Republicans currently in Congress must be voted out next November.

The chart above is from a recent Public Policy Polling survey -- done between May 6th and 9th of 1,222 registered voters, with a margin of error of 3.2 points.
