An Idiot
It would be a kindness to say this buffoon is just demonstrating senility, but it wouldn't be true. He is just an old-fashioned idiot who believes that women are not as important as men, and should be kept in a second-class citizenship status (subject to the rule of men). And if he has to spread vicious lies to keep the patriarchy alive, he is willing to do that. He obviously has missed the message of love in the book he precesses to believe in, and the religion he claims to represent.

Pat Robertson & Pictures Of Gay Men
It seems that Pat Robertson was talking about Facebook recently, and how people shouldn't "like" anything that god (meaning that Pat Robertson) doesn't approve of. He said:
"What you're saying is, 'Yes, I like this kind of thing.' You've got a couple of same-sex guys kissing. You 'Like' that. Well, that makes me want to throw up... To me, I would punch 'Vomit,' not 'Like'... They don't give you that option on Facebook."
That makes me wonder. Why is Pat Robertson looking at pictures of gay men kissing on Facebook? Doesn't he protest just a bit too much? Maybe he should just get it over with and come out of the closet.

This Man Is An Idiot
If there was ever any doubt that christian apologist Pat Robertson has completely lost his damn mind, this one quote should end that doubt. How could he possibly believe that christians are being persecuted in a country that is predominantly christian -- and has elected politicians that are mostly christian (even among the Democrats)? And how could anyone, no matter how stupid or insane, believe that so-called persecution is worse than the holocaust in Germany, slavery in the Americas, genocide in Rwanda and the United States, the Inquisition in Spain, and the mass murders in Cambodia (Pol Pot) and the Soviet Union (Stalin). I could go on and on, but you probably get the picture.
I know that Robertson and his ilk would like to pass laws requiring Americans to abide by the rules of his particular brand of christianity. But accusing Americans of "wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry" simply because they won't give in to his desires and replace our secular democracy with a virulent theocracy is way over the line. And it's really scary that there are many people in the United States that still watch his TV show and continue to send him money.
Let me be blunt. Refusing to allow people like Robertson to impose their version of religion on all American citizens is NOT a violation of the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom -- it is the very essence of it.

Pat Robertson Opposes Marijuana Laws
I have never had a lot of respect for Pat Robertson of TV's 700 Club. He is one of the most rabid of the right-wing christian fundamentalists and I never expected to ever agree with him on any issue. I was wrong about that. As they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day, and I find I agree with Robertson's latest pronouncement about marijuana. Listen to what Robertson said on his TV program the other night:
"It got to be a big deal in campaigns. Lock 'em up, you know. That's the way these guys ran, and they got elected. But that wasn't the answer.
Something else we've got to recognize. We're locking up people that take a couple of puffs of marijuana and the next thing they know they've got 10 years. They've got mandatory sentences and these judges just ... throw up their hands and say there's nothing we can do.
We've got to take a look at what we're considering crimes and that's one of them. I'm not exactly for the use of drugs. Don't get me wrong. But I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot and that kind of thing, it's costing us a fortune and it's ruining young people.
They go into prison as youths and they come out as hardened criminals, and that's not a good thing."
If there is a hell, it has to be freezing over right now. Who could have guessed that a nut like Pat Robertson would be talking rationally and making sense. Compared to other drugs, even legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, marijuana is virtually harmless. It has never made any sense to ruin people's lives and brand them as criminals for smoking this gentle herb.
Anther thing to think about is the billions of dollars in new taxes that could be gathered by legalizing marijuana (along the line of how alcohol is controlled) and taxing it. In this recession, all levels of government could benefit from the taxes. And a lot of new jobs could be created by the growing, transportation and sale of marijuana. It just makes a lot of sense.

No Dissent Accepted At Regent University

Regent University, founded by televangelist Pat Robertson, has had over 150 of its alumni serve in the Bush administration. The right-wing fundamentalist school fits right in with Bush's desire to inject religion into government. But now they have made the national news for a different reason.
The school recently banned one of their law students from their campus. According to the Associated Press:
A Regent University law student...has been banned from campus and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation before he can return to classes.
Adam M. Key, 23, also was ordered to undergo counseling if a mental health provider that is acceptable to the university deems it appropriate, and to provide a report showing that he has completed any treatment plan required. He also must agree to allow the mental health provider to provide regular updates on his treatment to the school.
Those are some pretty serious actions. He must be a dangerous person who has done something pretty bad, for the university to take this kind of action -- right? Wrong! These right-wing fundamentalist schools are not known for accepting criticism or promoting academic freedom, and Regent seems especially sensitive to criticisms of Pat Robertson.
Key's big crime was posting a picture of Pat Robertson on his internet Facebook page. The picture was taken from a video of Robertson scratching his face with his middle finger, and looks as though he was making an obscene gesture. The school thinks any student who would post such a picture on their personal web page must be a dangerous maniac in need of psychiatric care.
Key says, "It's rather entertaining to me that I've been there a year and a half now and only now are they concerned about my mental state...At the time we start labeling people who have dissenting voices as dangerous, we start losing the freedom that makes us Americans".
Pat Robertson spoke out on the controversy, and almost sounded reasonable at first. He said, "...in general, no action should be taken against anyone who exercises their freedom of speech and expression, and that includes criticism or satire of the chancellor (Robertson)", but then he added that changing a TV image to "turn it into something obscene" was not included in that freedom.
But Regent is not any different from any of the other right-wing fundamentalist schools. There is little, if any, academic freedom, and they are unable to take any differing opinion on their policies or politics. There is only one viewpoint that is acceptable for a student to have on these campuses -- the school's viewpoint.
This whole thing was over a funny picture of Robertson posted on a personal web page. Frankly, it's kind of scary to think there are so many graduates of this school in positions of importance in our current administration.

Pat Robertson Nuts Out Again
Pat Robertson is at it again -- making predictions that won't come true, and in essence, making fun of those who take christianity seriously. He has to be poking fun at christianity, or he would have stopped making the predictions when the first one didn't come true.
In 2004, he said god told him that Bush would win easily. Bush did win, but it was a squeaker, with him only getting 51% of the vote. Not exactly wrong, but not the easy win he predicted.
In 2005, he said god told him that Bush would win approval of his social security reforms and get conservative judges appointed to federal courts. Bush did get two conservatives on the Supreme Court, but that social security "reform" still has not been approved.
In 2006, he said god told him that a tsunami would hit the east coast of the United States. It didn't happen, but Pat said he was partially right because the east coast had heavy rains last Spring.
This year, Pat said god has told him there will be a terrorist attack in the U.S. resulting in a "mass killing" late in 2007 -- possibly nuclear.
Pat's sorry record of mistakes makes me wonder just which god he's talking to. I was always taught as a child that the christian god is infallible, but Pat's god sure isn't. Pat's god is wrong on a regular basis!
Of course, we all know that it has nothing to do with any god. Pat Robertson is a religious con man who preys on the gullibility of his followers -- a classic false prophet. He's not talking to god, but just trying to scare christians into sending him more money.
It's time he was kicked to the curb. He's an embarrassment to true christians everywhere.
