300 Millionth American Will Be Born Next Week

According to United States census data, America will reach a population of 300 million sometime next week. As of 10:00pm last night [Thursday], the population of the U.S. was 299,966,516. To project U.S. population growth, the following figures are used:

A baby is born every 7 seconds.

An immigrant arrives every 31 seconds.

A person dies every 13 seconds.

The Census Bureau has a "clock" it uses to show predicted population growth. The census clock can be found here. Here are the U.S. and Texas population figures in 50 year increments [Texas currently has about 23 million people]:

YEAR.............TEXAS.................UNITED STATES

1850...............212,592...............23,191,876
1900...............3,048,710............76,212,168
1950...............7,711,194.............151,325,798
2000...............20,851,820..........281,421,906

2005...............22,270,165..........288,378,137
2006...............23,000,000..........300,000,000

Here in Tarrant county, we have also experienced enormous growth. In 1970, Tarrant county had 716,317 people. Since then, over a million people have flooded into Tarrant county, which now has a population of 1.7 million people. Since a large number of these new Texans are yuppie Republican snowbirds from up north, it is easy to see why Tarrant county has gone from a solidly Democratic county to a Republican stronghold.
