Lindbergh's plane had a fuel capacity of over 400 gallons. For a 3,600 mile flight, that's about 9 miles per gallon. If your car had 400 gallons of gas, you'd go about 8,000 miles, assuming a rate of 20 miles per gallon.
So, it should read: "He flew 3,600 miles over the Atlantic Ocean in 1927 on a 400-gallon tank of fuel...and I can go 300 miles in my car without refueling in 2009, if you think about it, it's reasonable."
