Pirates Make Another Serious Mistake

The pirates operating out of Somalia don't seem to be making some very good decisions lately. A couple of weeks ago, they attacked a United States warship. They had their boat shot out from under them and were taken prisoner. Now they're looking at an extended prison sentence.

Now they seem to have screwed up again. A couple of days ago, the Somali pirates attacked a Russian ship, a tanker named Moscow University. Although they were able to seize the ship, they weren't able to do anything with it. That's because the crew was able to shut the ship down and take refuge in a "safe room" inside the ship where the pirates were not able to get to them.

That left the pirates in charge of a ship that was going nowhere. Even worse for the pirates, a Russian warship was only a short distance away -- the Marshal Shaposhnikov (pictured). This warship quickly came to the rescue of its fellow Russian ship. Even though they were fired upon by the pirates, Russian forces boarded the ship and took control with no casualties.

One pirate was killed and ten were taken into custody. They will now be transported to Moscow for trial. They're certainly not going to enjoy that!
