Right-Wingers Desecrating Memory Of 9/11

If you read their blogs and watch Fox News, it is clear that right-wingers would like to think of themselves as the keepers of the sacred memory of the 9/11 disaster (and I'm sure that some right-wingers really do want to honor the victims of that terrible tragedy). They even caused a big hullabaloo about some American muslims building a community center several blocks away from "ground zero". They said it was disrespectful to the memory of 9/11.

But it seems that it is only the liberals and/or muslims that they don't want desecrating the memory of 9/11. It seems to be fine for right-wingers to do it. There is a group planning an anti-muslim hate rally in New York on that day, and a church in Gainesville who will mark the day by burning Qurans. Both of these actions seem especially reprehensible considering that many innocent muslim American citizens died in the tragedy.

And it is clear now that some right-wingers value something even more than respecting the memory of 9/11 -- money. Sadly, some are using the memory of the victims to try and make money for themselves or their organizations. They don't seem to realize that turning a solemn tribute to the victims of 9/11 into a money-making venture is the ultimate form of disrespect, and something no American with a sense of dignity and decency would even consider doing.

Here are some of the money-making ventures scheduled to take advantage of the 9/11 disaster:

– This weekend, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are hosting a rally in Anchorage, Alaska to mark the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Ticket prices range from $73.75 per person (including taxes and fees) to a high of $225. As the Hill newspaper reports, “there was no indication as to whom or what the proceeds will go.”

– Disgraced lobbyist Ralph Reed is using his consulting firm Century Strategies to host a “Faith and Freedom Conference and Strategy Briefing” with an assortment of conservatives, including Brent Bozell, Tony Perkins, Rich Lowry, Tucker Carlson, Grover Norquist, Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA), Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Erick Erickson, and others. The event is on September 10th-11th, and costs $95 for early registration.

– Newt Gingrich is using the September 11th anniversary to unveil a new movie called “America At Risk,” which Gingrich says will drive the “national dialogue” about President Obama’s failure to address the rise of “Radical Islam” and its attempt to impose Sharia law on the United States. Gingrich’s website notesthat the public can “pre-order your copy now for just $19.95 plus $4 shipping.”

All of these people should be ashamed of themselves, but I doubt they will be. They don't seem to have a conscience when it comes to their own actions.
