Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry likes to brag about health care in the state of Texas, while berating his opponent Mitt Romney for passing a health care insurance bill while governor of Massachusetts. But Perry, as usual, has things backwards. While Massachusetts leads the nation in having the fewest people without health insurance, Texas finishes dead last.
When the health care reform was being debated Texas had 26% of its residents without any kind of health insurance. It has now grown even worse, with 27.2% of all Texans unable to get or afford health insurance. Here are the ten best states and the ten worst states in health insurance coverage for their residents, and oddly enough, most of those with the highest number of insured are red states while most of those with the lowest number of uninsured are blue states. That should tell us something.
