Republican Ten Commandments

I don't know where this came from, but it contains a lot of truth. Just think, there was a time in the history of this country when the Republican Party was worthy of some respect. What the hell happened? (click on the image to make it larger and easier to read)

  2. Let's check it for truth, shall we?

    1) It's a kind of meaningless "conforming to religious doctrine" accusation that I thought that the Right only engaged.

    2) I spent a lot of time checking and found out that conservatives tend to give more to charities than liberals. From the New York Times, just one of many examples; "But Mr. Brooks says that if measuring by the percentage of income given, conservatives are more generous than liberals even to secular causes."

    3) A very fair point. But liberals opposed to free trade also have an overlap on this.

    4) Again, another very fair point. Considering the evolution arguments.

    5) This one is not true at all. The Bush tax cuts, for example, are strongly defended by the Republicans. I'm sure you must agree that this is the most famous example of a tax cut in recent history. Yet, in these tax cuts, most of the people who get to keep their own money are middle class, not rich. And most of the money overall goes back to (is kept by) the middle class.

    6) Fair point, but this is also a Democrat problem also. From Bill Clinton favoring the death penalty to Obama's drone executions.

    7) Not a fair point, as the Republicans also oppose the extremist abortion clinic bombers.

    8) Fair point.

    9) Not a fair point, since the Republicans tend to favor policies to treat members of all of these groups equally (without singling any out for special favor), more than Democrats.

    10) Fair point, but hardly a damning or meaningful one.

Part very accurate, part flat out wrong, and part meaningless. The creator of this list could do a lot better.
