I've thought about that with their candidates. Eisenhower -> Reagan -> GWB. It looks like they've finally found a level - with Palin and Perry - where these folks are too dumb even for the GOP, though.
Of course, now we have Romney with his public belief that people who criticize Wall Street corruption are just jealous.
