Even Fox News Says President Obama Has A Re-Election Advantage

Yesterday I posted that Obama has a lot of reason to smile these days, since he is far more popular than any of his possible Republican opponents (and several polls show he beats them all in head-to-head match-ups). Now there is confirmation of what I said, and it comes from a very unlikely source -- Fox News (the official TV propaganda arm of the Republican Party).

We all know that there are certain states that are sure bets to wind up in the Democratic or Republican column in the next election. Examples of states like this are -- California, New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut for the Democrats, and Texas, Utah, Alabama, and Oklahoma for the Republicans. That means the election will be decided by which candidate can win the battleground (or swing) states. These are the states that have shown in the past few elections that they could go for either party. As an example, many of them went for Bush in 2004 and Obama in 2008.

Fox News decided to find out just where things stand right now in these battleground states -- which they identified as Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, virginia, and Wisconsin. Together, these states have 131 electoral votes. Fox news commissioned a poll, and here's is what those polls showed about these swing states (in match-ups of Obama versus possible GOP candidates). The national (all states) figures are also given.

SWING STATES

Obama...............47%
Romney...............39%

Obama...............52%
Gingrich...............32%

Obama...............48%
Santorum...............39%

Obama...............48%
Paul...............36%

NATIONAL

Obama...............47%
Romney...............42%

Obama...............51%
Gingrich...............38%

Obama...............50%
Santorum...............38%

Obama...............48%
Paul...............38%

This is some very good news for President Obama. In fact, he is winning the swing states by even larger margins than the national totals show (which means the Republican states are so red they skew the national numbers). If these swing states are where the election will be decided, then the president is currently looking like he's in great shape.
