Several polls have shown President Obama with a lead over Willard Mitt Romney (aka Wall Street Willie) recently, and some even say that lead is now starting to grow. Why is this? A new Economist/YouGov Poll (done between Jone 30th and July 2nd of 1,000 nationwide addults) may have the reason. It seems that people just like the president better than Romney. Here are the numbers:
PRESIDENT OBAMA
Favorable opinion...............50%
Unfavorable opinion...............44%
MITT ROMNEY
Favorable opinion...............41%
Unfavorable opinion...............49%
The poll shows that more people like President Obama than dislike him (a plus 6 rating). For Romney, it's just the opposite more people dislike him than like him (a negative 8 rating). And when the two are compared against each other, the president has a 9 point higher favorable rating than Romney, while Romney has a 5 point higher unfavorable rating than Obama.
But that is true only for elderly and middle-aged voters. When the young (18 to 29 year olds) are polled, the president has a much larger advantage. Here are the numbers for young voters:
PRESIDENT OBAMA
Favorable opinion...............59%
Unfavorable opinion...............30%
MITT ROMNEY
Favorable opinion...............31%
Unfavorable opinion...............56%
Among the young, the president has far more people liking him than disliking him (a plus 29 rating). And Romney has far more of the young disliking him than liking him (a negative 25 rating). And when the two are compared against each other, the president has a 28 point higher favorable rating, while Romney has a 26 point higher unfavorable rating. Romney is a big loser among the younger generation.
