Campaign Spending By Outside Groups

This chart, from the Center for Responsive Politics, clearly shows the effect that the misguided Supreme Court decision in Citizens United vs. FEC has had on our elections -- and the spending for this year is not yet complete. The corporations and the rich have been freed to pour huge sums of money into supporting the candidates they like (mostly Republicans). And while their voice in electoral politics has dramatically increased, the voice of the average citizen has been significantly decreased.

This has pulled this nation much closer to becoming a plutocracy (rule by the wealthy), and away from a democracy (rule by all citizens). This must be changed before we lose what little democracy is left -- even if it takes a constitutional amendment to do it.
