Message From The Chairman

On Tuesday, Texas will choose its next U.S. Senator. The importance of this race cannot be overemphasized. On one side we have a crazy Tea Party Republican, and on the other we have Paul Sadler, a Democrat who has spent his life fighting for the values we share.

Paul Sadler’s entire career has been about working to expand educational opportunities and to give our seniors the ability to age with dignity. Ted Cruz is the most reactionary candidate Texas has seen – and that’s saying something! If Cruz wins, he would abolish the Department of Education and gut Medicare and Social Security.

It’s important to know what’s at stake in this race. Below is a comparison of the two candidates. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors. Let them know that Paul Sadler has their back and now we need to get his.

Yours,

Gilberto Hinojosa

Departments of Commerce, Energy and Education

Ted Cruz – Would abolish these departments. Slashing the Department of Education would cause Texas to lose 6 Billion in funding for early childhood development, college student loans, and adult education training. The National Weather Bureau, the agency that tells us when a storm like Sandy is going to hit? Yep, it’s run through the Department of Commerce. Cruz wants to cut it.

Paul Sadler – Would keep and support all of these crucial departments, while making sure they run as efficiently as possible. He believes in an effective government that provides educational opportunity and thinks it might be important to let you know when the next storm will hit.

Healthcare Reform

Ted Cruz – Has promised to repeal “every syllable of every word” of healthcare reform as soon as he enters office.

Paul Sadler – Supports healthcare reform, including no longer allowing pre-existing conditions to be used to deny coverage, letting kids stay on their parent’s coverage up to age 26, providing free screening exams for seniors, and closing the “donut hole” in prescription drug coverage.

Immigration

Ted Cruz – Wants a border wall and drones (Yes, drones!) to protect the border, and to throw Dream Act kids out of the country.

Paul Sadler – Supports the Dream Act and a reasonable and efficient path to citizenship.  Paul is opposed to the droning of Texas skies.  This is pretty simple, Cruz wants to build a wall - Sadler wants to build a future.

Social Security and Medicare

Ted Cruz – Would gut these programs, increase retirement ages, privatize Social Security and undermine Medicare by making it a voucher program.

Paul Sadler – Supports these vital programs.  Paul understands that seniors have contributed to these funds their entire lives and have earned a future with security and dignity.
