The new House of Representatives is still going to have a majority of Republicans, but the voters did reduce that margin a bit in this election -- and even better, they got rid of some of the teabaggers who were refusing to compromise for the good of the country. They're not all gone (for instance, Bachmann in Minnesota and King in Iowa survived), but we'll get another crack at them in 2014.
I don't expect the Republicans left in the House to abandon their beliefs or go along with everything President Obama proposes. But perhaps they will be just a little bit more inclined to compromise for the benefit of the country. We can always hope.
