It is interesting -- and not very surprising. The nations that spend the least on social welfare programs have the most poverty. Who would have guessed? We live in the richest nation in the world, and yet we have more poverty than other developed nations. That says something about Americans, doesn't it?
Not even taking in to account that "below median income" goes a lot farther, and might not be what we would count as poverty, when your health care coverage and your child care is paid for and you get paid family leave.
