There are a lot of misconceptions about the new directive from President Obama that gives women with health insurance free birth control. Two of the biggest misconceptions are that somehow taxpayers are paying for this, or that employers (especially religious employers) are paying for it. Neither is true. Taxpayers pay nothing, and the employers pay the same as they did before the benefit was specified. The new benefit is paid for by the insurance companies -- and they are happy to do it, because it's a lot cheaper for them than having to pay for a lot of pregnancies (some of them very expensive premature births).
All the president did was talk the insurance companies into doing something for their own benefit. It is not a burden on taxpayers, and it is not a violation of anyone's religious freedom (because no employer is paying any more for their insurance than if the benefit did not exist). And if anyone tells you different, they are either misinformed or they are lying.
