Tour's Stage 14 Has Successful Breakaway

It took 14 stages of this year's 100th Tour de France, but we have finally had a successful breakaway. Fourteen riders spent the last 150 kilometers of the stage putting distance between themselves and the peloton, and were able to take their breakaway move all the way to the finish line -- finishing over 7 minutes ahead of the race leaders, who stayed in the peloton.

Most of the breakaway riders were too far away from the race lead for this to do them much good, but a young rider from the United States (Andrew Talansky) used the breakaway to move himself from 17th place (and 13' 11" behind) to 12th place (and 5' 54" behind). With a couple of good rides this week in the mountains, he could put himself in a position for a top ten finish in this year's race -- and maybe even win the White Jersey (where he's now only 1' 10" behind). But whatever happens, this young rider is having a great Tour and has a bright future.

Stage 15 will finish with an incredibly difficult unrated climb, which could shake up the overall standings. It will be interesting to see if Christopher Froome can hold on to his Yellow Jersey. Here are the stage 14 top finishers and the current standings:
