That's just about right. My sister-in-law, who started teaching in 1969 and retired a few years ago, said that when she first gave out bad grades, her students got it from their parents. As time wore on, she became the target of the parents' wrath. I can't remember when it started turning around; my guess would be some time in the '80's.
My father would never have blamed a teacher. He expected me to find and way to get along with and work with even a poor teacher. And that's the attitude I took with my own kids. All teachers are different, and some are better than others, but that is no excuse for bringing home a bad grade.
