Three major religions sprang from the descendants of Abraham -- judaism, christianity, and islam. And even though they all claim to believe in a loving god, they are the bloodiest religions in the modern world. They all have a history of condoning violence, especially against the other Abrahamic religions, and that violent hatred persists today. Frankly, I don't understand it. How does a loving god spawn such violent religions? Do the adherents of these religions really think hatred and violence spring from love?
Ted, it's the same sort of human weakness that is exampled in Marxist socialism which preaches the brotherhood of the workers - and then proceeds to slaughter them wholesale!

Apparently the Somali terrorists who raided the Kenyan mall went so far as to torture and rape prisoners.

All in the name of Allah.
David has a point here (even if he is a teabagger). Basically, it is possible to turn *anything* into a religion, and once you've done that, you can legitimize controlling and torturing people. Because it's all in the name of a greater IDEAL.
